Well, I've finally taken the plunge and installed the beta version of Ubuntu Hardy - again just like Fiesty, after installing it I wish I hadn't, there were quite a few problems associated with it... some are solved easily, some still need work... I'm using a HP Pavilion dv2308tx Intel core2duo machine, using the 64bit version of Ubuntu.
The Good
- Suspend to RAM now works out of the box, however hibernate (Suspend to disk) doesn't work - will need to dig deeper to find out if it can be solved.
- Boot up time seems a little faster now
- Network Manager works great
- The builtin webcam works as with the mics and speakers (see the not too bad section on how to fix sound quality)
The Not too Bad
- Sound quality was horrible immediately after upgrading - however, once you lower the PCM volume to about 50% the sound becomes clear again. Afterwards you can put it back to 100% and the sound quality remains good.
The Bad
- Adobe Flash no longer works.
- nVidia driver doesn't work with the real time kernel version.
The verdict? Unless you're despitely wanting Suspend to RAM I would suggest waiting a few weeks after the release before upgrading.
